Appointment during a day hospital admission, when several tests are needed on the same day: the doctor arranges them, assesses the results and decides on treatment. You go home the same day.
A substance that stimulates or suppresses a gland is given, and hormones are measured with repeated blood draws over the following hours. These tests show whether the pituitary gland or the adrenal glands produce too much or too little hormone. They are usually done while fasting.
Ultrasound scan of the thyroid, parathyroid glands and neck and, when needed, of other endocrine glands, carried out on the same day as the admission to complete the diagnosis. It is painless and uses no radiation.
